Lessons learned, re: EMC Powerpath

Apparently, multipathing with Powerpath requires a restart and module reload to add luns to an existing system. That also involves unmounting live filesystems to do so. That means an outage. Production does not like outages, and surprisingly enough, neither dev nor QA like outages either. So… we will wait to add the space they claim they really need until said time we can have an outage. Oh well..it gives me a change to LVM the disks and sync them properly this way.

No, I didn’t cause an outage: I was simply the bearer of bad news that they needed one to complete the task at hand.

I aim to get them on native multipathing in the near future. There’s no hit on performance (at least none that anyone here is ever going to notice), and I am a big fan of standardization.

Big shout out to Kurt Garloff for his scsi bus rescan script. I have used that more times than I can count, and I didn’t even have to write it.
